OLD ORCHARD BEACH (AP) – Old Orchard Beach voters have given a thumbs down to a proposal that would have allowed the town to sell its aging baseball park.
The Ballpark was home to the Maine Guides minor league baseball team, and had hosted dozens of concerts in the 1980s, and has fallen into disrepair in recent years.
The Town Council had recommended a “yes” vote on a ballot question asking if the town should sell the facility. But voters thought otherwise Tuesday, defeating the measure by a nearly 2-1 margin.
Supporters said selling the ballpark would have brought a developer and new money to town. But opponents said the town would be better off holding onto the property.
