Dear Sun Spots: Could you help me to find the pieces to a carrom board and checkers for the other side. I haven’t been able to find them locally and don’t have a computer to go on the Internet. I’d appreciate any help. I read Sun Spots every day and haven’t seen anything about carrom. – No Name, Auburn.

Answer:
In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots found a wonderful store on the Internet called Lehman’s, located in Kidron, Ohio. Founded by Jay Lehman in 1955 to serve the local Amish and others without electricity, Lehman’s ships old-fashioned, high-quality merchandise all over the world. Jay’s vision was to preserve the past for future generations. His goal was, and still is, to provide authentic, historical products to those seeking a simpler life. They sell both carrom and checker boards and pieces. The carrom play package sells for $10.95 and includes an instruction booklet, complete set of carrom plastic pieces plus tops and pins required for other games. The cues are not included. The wooden checker pieces with a caddy sell for $14.95. Checkers pieces are stained light and dark and the caddy is made of hardwood.

If you’d like to order from Lehman’s, call their customer service department at 1-888-438-5346 for more information.

Dear Sun Spots: I am planning a benefit yard sale for June 20-21. This is to help a young mother whose baby was born premature this past winter. The baby has had to undergo many operations to survive. She’s a fighter.

The baby’s father passed away unexpectedly this winter so the widow and young mom can use all the help that kind people can give.

If you have things to donate they may be dropped off at 120 Jackson Hill Rd. in Minot. My phone numbers are 346-3373 and 740-1125. Any help would be appreciated. Bring returnables also. Thank you. – JoJo, Minot.

Dear Sun Spots: I work for a local nonprofit that has been hit hard by the state budget crisis. As a result, we are out of funds for the fiscal year at the group home that I run. We badly need a sofa/couch/loveseat and could also use a couple of recliners as ours are in a state of disrepair, and we have had them for quite a few years. Donations have to be in almost new condition due to the needs of the home. They would need to have no pet dander on them, be smoke free, and be easily wiped clean or stain resistant. They can have no tears or rips due to the needs of our people. The color, style is really unimportant. The condition is most important. If anyone has a leather sofa/loveseat that would be ideal for one our folks who is VERY hard on furniture. We can provide the moving/transport of the donation(s). You may contact me at 795-6984 or 242-2481 and we will come and look at/pick up your donation. Thank you!- E.M., No Town.
