AUBURN – Harold E. Hinkley, 71, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Lewiston on Feb. 8, 1937, a son of Edward and Myrna (Record) Hinkley.

He attended Turner schools and graduated from Leavitt Institute in 1955, and Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1957.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army and the Maine National Guard, 1955 to 1965.

He worked for 40 years as a truck driver in partnership with his brother Herbert Hinkley, retiring in 2000.

He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, serving as deacon for many years and Sunday School superintendent for 30 years. He was known for his faithfulness and gentleness which the cancer did not change. His desire is for others to also know Christ as their Savior: “For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

On May 8, 1966, he married in Stoneham, Mass., the former Glenda Blaisdell, and together they reared six children.

He is survived by his widow, Glenda Hinkley; four daughters, Mrs. Roger (Cheryl) Scollon of Merrillville, Ind., Mrs. Mark (Carrie) Phillips of Livermore, Mrs. Joshua (Maelene) Norton of Decin, Czech Republic, and Mrs. Joel (Angela) Wellard of Ontario, Canada; two sons, Jason Hinkley of Louisville, Ky., and Timothy Hinkley of Turner; and 13 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Brian Hinkley.
