BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) – A judge has ordered the chair of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council to stay away from his wife and three children. The Cape Cod Times reported that a restraining order was granted to Shawn Hendricks’ wife, Elizabeth, in Barnstable Probate Court on Thursday.

Shawn Hendricks is leading the tribe’s efforts to build a $1 billion casino in Middleborough.

His wife filed for divorce in May. In an affidavit, Hendricks’ wife said he has a “very bad temper” and enjoys intimidating her.

In a statement, Hendricks’ attorney, Diane Mulligan, said Hendricks’ children were his only concern, and responding to his wife’s charges would hurt them.

The 40-year-old Hendricks became tribal council chair last August.

, after former chair Glenn Marshall resigned after a rape conviction and lies about his military service were exposed.
