WINTHROP – Led by Eric Palleschi’s two doubles, Winthrop Red Sox rolled past the Central Maine Green Wave, 12-1, in Men’s Senior Baseball League action Sunday.
Palleschi, who is the varsity baseball coach at Monmouth Academy, belted the first of his two-baggers to drive in Dave Ricker for the go-ahead and eventual game winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Oakland’s Wave (2-5) plated its only run in the top of the first when Joel Fernald pushed Kris Target across the plate with a double. Sox pitching held the Wave to only four hits on the day. Torey Carr worked seven innings to pick up his third win of the season for Winthrop (5-1).
Richard Doble pitched six strong innings for the Wave but took the loss.
Doble, Target and John Durrell also hit safely for the Green Wave.
Along with Palleschi, Dave Ricker Jr. was a repeat hitter for Winthrop.
The Sox host the Great Falls Outlaws in Winthrop next Sunday, while the Rumford Cardinals travel to Messalonskee to take on the Green Wave.
