WEST PARIS – Selectmen authorized Town Manager John White to order the installation of a new phone system in the town office.
Selectmen approved the update during their meeting Thursday, June 12.
“What we have is not a true system. We often get feedback between the two lines and have no answering service that can record calls during off-hours,” White said. “We need to be able to better monitor calls and increase availability of services in the office.”
The system will be installed by Commercial Communications of Turner for just over $1,491.
“I would expect it will probably be ready to go within a week’s time,” White said.
In other business, library trustees Vice Chairman Janet Fornier reported that the library is going well and is becoming more and more popular with townspeople.
“Patronage at the library is increasing and our funds are in the best position with our trust funds all within the library guidelines,” Fornier said. “Also, our grant application process is back on track and we are just waiting for replies at this time. So we are hopeful we will see our building fund grow soon and be able to move forward with plans to expand the library” and bring it in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Fornier said the library received a donation of $130 in pennies raised by first-graders at Agnes Gray School.
