LEWISTON – Bettyjean Casper, 77, of 10 Oak St., died unexpectedly June 15, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with her family by her side. She went to be with her husband John, whom she married on June 11, 1949, and who died on Nov. 17, 2006.

She was born in Lewiston on Nov. 27, 1930, the daughter of Alexander and Anne (Donkus) King. She attended Lisbon schools and later graduated from Lewiston High School.

She worked for many years at the former King’s Department store in the toy department and later for many years at Tambrands until her retirement.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, cooking, playing bingo and doing puzzles with her friends at Oak Park Apartments. She especially enjoyed going to family cookouts.

She is survived by her five daughters, Carol Hanna of Winthrop, Marie Wade of Hartford, Arlene Casper and Barbara Casper, of Lewiston and Geneva Varney and her husband, Fred, of Turner; her two sons, William and his wife, Louise, and John III of Lewiston; 11 grandchildren, David and Andrew Hanna, Peter Wade and his wife, Jen, Jeffrey Wade, Crystal St. Pierre, Todd Casper, Kassara Varney, Amy Casper, Dawn Feldman and her husband, Scott, Jacob and Samantha Casper; her great-granddaughter, Abigail Casper; her brother, Robert Balis of Fresno, Calif.; and her niece, Laura Balis of New York.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital for the wonderful care they provided for Betty.
