Diet to be topic
LEWISTON – “Heart Healthy Diet” will be the topic of a presentation set for the Thursday, June 19, meeting of the Central and Western Maine ICD Support Group.
Registered dietitian Ashley Whalen will discuss the basics of a heart-healthy diet and how to prepare meals that promote good cardiovascular health. Her presentation will include a cooking demonstration.
The support group is for individuals who have an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). Family members and other support persons are also welcome to attend. The meeting provides a forum for discussion regarding experiences with ICD and will present learning opportunities on living with the devices and cardiac health issues.

Grange to elect
MECHANIC FALLS – Members of Excelsior Grange 5 will gather at the Rockin’ Railroad buffet at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 21, for dinner, then adjourn to the hall at 446 Harris Hill Road in Poland at 7:30 for a meeting with election of officers. All members are asked to attend.
Earns honors
AUBURN – Niyati Desai of Auburn was recently honored at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children held by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. The ceremony was held May 24 at the University of Maine in Orono.
Desai was invited to the awards ceremony, sponsored by the Center for Talented Youth, based on an exceptional performance on a rigorous, above-grade-level test given to second through eighth-grade talent search participants.
Desai, who attends Auburn Middle School, is the daughter of Vinay and Geeta Desai of Auburn.
Moxie space
LISBON FALLS – The first annual Moxie Art Show in the Gazebo Park area has limited space available for local artists to display and sell their works during the 25th anniversary celebration of Moxie on Friday through Sunday, July 11 to 13.
Anyone wishing can sign up for a display area in the park as space permits until the Wednesday of Moxie week. The Gazebo Art in the Park will be held on the Saturday of the festival. The paintings of Lisbon artist Frank Gross will be on view at the MTM Center on School Street.
The displays can be an art walk from the food courts and entertainment of downtown Lisbon Falls to the gazebo area across from Lisbon High School and the Native American Pow Wow behind the school. Peterson accepted at MSSM
AUBURN – George Peterson, son of Amy and Steven Peterson of Auburn, has been accepted for fall enrollment as a sophomore at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics, Limestone. More information about the school is available at www.mssm.org.
Wins raffle
LEWISTON – Kim Foster of Wales won the the Discovery School’s spring raffle fundraiser, $505 dining dollars. The winning ticket was sold by Helen Price-Wharff, a parent of two children attending the school.
The support of 13 area restaurants made the spring fundraiser a success and allowed 100 percent of money raised to benefit the nonprofit school.
