The Lewiston veterans’ Memorial Day parade on May 24 was well-received. The parade ended in the Veterans Memorial Park with the unveiling of a new monument with an added 216 names of veterans and the presentation of two new plaques.

I offer congratulations to the parade chairman and all who participated and gave their all.

I was deeply moved, and very much surprised, when a kind woman, carrying a sign with two words that said “Thank you,” came to my vehicle. That was a first for me.

Those two beautiful words – “thank you” – on that sign, which I could see was all handmade with loving care and true meaning, spoke volumes. Her facial expression also said it all.

I was deeply touched, to say the least.

What it was saying was thank you, veterans, for your many sacrifices.

That sign, with those two beautiful words, will be a part of me forever.

A photo of appreciation, with a well-trained eye, singled out that special sign.

The Sun Journal displayed good taste and professionalism at its best.
