Emblem Club chooses its member of year
FARMINGTON – Farmington Emblem Club 460 honored its member of the year, Marge Bernier, at the June potluck supper and meeting. Members said Bernier is always there to help the club when there is an event, including most flag-folding ceremonies.
Bernier was presented a framed poem written for her by members Judy Lane and Nancy Crosby, a bouquet of flowers and an engraved charm bracelet.
Before the start of the meeting, Exalted Ruler Les Brown, Farmington Elks Lodge 2430, addressed the 32 members present. A guest from the Middletown, Conn., Emblem Club, Amber Bonafonte, was present.
Americanism Chairwoman Mabel Cox gave a reading, “Forgotten Flag.” She reminded members of flag-folding ceremonies at the Pierce House on Saturday, June 21; New Sharon on Saturday, July 26; and Wilton Blueberry Festival at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at the Nichols Expo.
Club members will march at the Strong Pierpole Days Parade on Friday, June 27; the Farmington 4 of July parade and float; and the Wilton Blueberry Festival parade and float on Saturday, Aug. 2.
The club will sponsor the doll carriage and bicycle parade during the Wilton Blueberry Festival, with Nancy Chase as chairwoman, assisted by Charlotte Mills and others. The club will also sponsor a blood drive at the Nichols Expo building on Friday, Aug. 1.
On Saturday, July 5, the club will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the home of Becky Powell, 496 Farmington Falls Road. Shannon Smith will host a summer outing and potluck lunch at her campsite at Dummer’s Beach in Weld starting at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 13.
The next meeting of Farmington Emblem Club 460 will be held on Thursday, Sept. 4.
