NEW GLOUCESTER – A six-hour standoff ended with the arrest of a New Gloucester man Tuesday after police were called to a Dermot Avenue home for a report of an assault.
Dennis Voter, 47, was charged with domestic violence and threatening at about 6 a.m. Tuesday after giving himself up to Cumberland County Sheriff’s officials.
Voter was taken to the county jail in Portland where he later posted bail and was released.
Police were called to the home at about midnight after receiving a report that Voter had assaulted someone inside.
Police said there were no injuries resulting from the incident and that the alleged victim was able to leave the home before officers got to the scene. However, when sheriff’s deputies arrived, Voter refused to come outside and a standoff ensued.
Police said no shots were fired and no weapon was found on Voter when he gave himself up Tuesday morning.
