AUBURN – Thaddee (Ted) F. Moreau, 76, of Lewiston, passed away at the Hospice House on Sunday, June 15, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ted was born in Lewiston, on July 25, 1931, the son of Ludovic and Margaret (Giasson) Moreau. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1950, and earned his B.S. degree in civil engineering at the University of Maine in Orono in 1954.
That same year, he married his high school and college sweetheart, Elaine Martin, and began his military career in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Belvoir, Va. He served his country in many parts of the world including the Vietnam War, where he received the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
After proudly and honorably serving his country, he retired from the military in 1975, as a major and started a new career. He taught math at Lewiston High School and found it very enjoyable and rewarding. He retired after 17 years.
He was a member of Holy Family Church, served on the parish council and was chairman of the finance committee for 15 years. He also was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Knights of Columbus, Androscoggin Retired Educators Association and The Pine Tree Gypsies RV Club. He was an avid sports fan for the Red Sox, Patriots and Boston Celtics, but most of all for his grandchildren’s football, soccer and hockey games.
He loved to travel in his motor home and visited many places throughout the United States and Canada. He will always be remembered for being the rock for his family, but most of all for “Driving Miss Daisy.”
A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elaine; his daughter, Diane; his son, David and his wife, Diane; his brother, Leo and his wife, Romance; his sister, Linda Hersom and husband, Don; his brother, Lawrence Moreau and wife, Sandy; and six grandchildren, Bryan, Jennifer, Matthew, Joshua, Maryke and Martin.
