WILTON – Lorna E. Dimond, 85, of Shea Street, Wilton, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, June 17, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness.
She was born in Readfield Depot, on July 25, 1922, a daughter of James and Olive (Goodhue) Rogers. She grew up on Galeville Street in Winthrop, graduating from Winthrop High School in 1942.
In her younger years, she was a member of the Campfire Girls and loved to talk about all of the wonderful trips she enjoyed with them. She was a member of the Winthrop United Methodist Church, Epworth League, and sang in the church choir.
She worked as a counselor at Mechuwana, the Methodist Church Camp in Winthrop for several years.
On Oct. 21, 1944, she married Frank M. Dimond Jr. of Wilton and settled in Wilton to raise their family. When her sons were young, she was a Cub Scout den mother. She was proud that her son Doug earned the honor of Eagle Scout. In 1948, she joined the Wilton United Methodist Church and was a 60-year member. She also taught Sunday school for 40 years and belonged to the Untied Methodist Women. Her church and her family were the things that mattered the most to her.
She was a member of the Wilton Day Extension, the Red Hat Society, and was an avid collector of salt and peppershakers. She enjoyed antiquing with her son Wayne and she also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking, especially her famous biscuits, gardening, reading inspirational books and going for rides.
She worked for 15 years for G.H Bass Shoe and prior to that worked at Farmington Shoe and Livermore Shoe and packed apples for several local orchards.
She is survived by her son, Douglas and his wife, Jackie, of Sabattus; daughter, Ruth Searles DesRoches of Alna; son, Wayne of Wilton; grandchildren, Jennifer Dimond of Portland, Beth Dimond of Winthrop, Dustin DesRoches and his wife, Melissa, of Shoreham, N.Y., Jay DesRoches of Las Vegas, Nev., Gini Sardinha and her husband, Ed, of Lebanon and Henry Luna of Jacksonville, Fla.; two honorary grandchildren, Rhonda Wiles-Rosell of Farmington and Kent Wiles of Wilton; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces, Carla Byrne and her husband, Russell, of Harbor Island, R.I., and Barbara Picard and her husband, Bruce, of Charlestown, R.I.; nephew, Brian Bubier of Wilton; many cousins; a special cousin, Becky Atkinson and her husband, Cy, of Brettons Mills; a brother-in-law, Richard Wyman of Wyoming, R.I.; and her beloved cat, Brownie Boy.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank in 1992; sister, Dorothy Wyman of Rhode Island; sister-in-laws, Violet and Sadie Dimond and Frances Bubier, all of Wilton; and a brother-in-law, Lucien Fortier of Hallowell.
