AUBURN – Justin Staires stole home on the front end of a double steal to culminate a six-run rally in the eighth inning tolead Rumford to an 8-7 victory over New Auburn in American Legion action Saturday.

New Auburn (1-1) jumped all over Runford starter Staires for six runs in the first inning before Jon Smith came in and quieted NAL’s bats. Smith allowed one run for the next six inning to allow Rumford a chance to come back.

Devin Flynn had three hits and Mike Muise had three RBIs for New Auburn. Derek Daley and Ben McCrillis had two hits apiece fr Rumford.

Gilman Electrical 10, Smith-Toby 7

POLAND – Kyle Mullins came on in the seventh inning and pitched three strong innings as Gilman Electrical came back to nail down a 10-7 victory over Smith-Toby in American Legion baseball action Saturday afternoon.

Smith-Toby (1-1) took a temporary one-run lead in the top of the seventh, before Gilman rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth. Kyle Kyllonen laid down a squeeze bunt, scoring Nick Douglass to help cement the win.

Will Griffiths, who pitched four innings of middle relief for Gilman Electrical (2-0), also contributed two hits in the game, including a double.

Matt Bickford roped a run scoring double for Smith Toby in the losing effort.

Gayton 9, Cole Farms 7

GRAY – Eddie West snapped a tie with a two-run single in the fourth inning to lead Gayton to a 9-7 victory over Cole Farms.

Coel Farms (0-2) had tied the game in the third on Lucas Chase’s two-run home run.

Kyle Neagle pitched the first seven inning to earn the win, with West getting the save. Greg LaBonte had a double for Gayton, while Joe Billings and Josh Sundquist hit doubles for Cole Farms.
