HARRISON – Harrison Old Home Days are set for Wednesday through Saturday, July 9-12. The theme for this year is “Celebrating the Olympics.” Recreation Director Paula Holt has been chosen grand marshal for the grand parade.

Once again fireworks, always some of the best in the area, will be set off shortly after dusk on Wednesday evening, giving everyone time to stroll through the midway and take in the sights, tastes and sounds coming to life at Crystal Lake Park. The food booth opens at 5:30 each night giving visitors time to enjoy a hot dog, hamburger or the popular sausage sub before the midway starts up at 6 p.m. Also opening at 6 p.m. each evening is the raffle booth where visitors can purchase tickets to win a host of prizes donated by area merchants and businesses.

This year the 5K road race has been renamed the Harrison Rec 5K Run by the Lake. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Harrison Recreation Department. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, rain or shine.

Registration will take place at the town office on Thursday between 5:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. T-shirts are guaranteed for the first 100 registrants. Prizes will be awarded to males and females in all age categories, from toddler to 70-plus. Prizes will also be awarded for middle of the pack and Harrison residents. The traditional refreshments and prizes will be awarded when the last entrant finishes.

A junior parade for toddlers and up to 12 years of age steps off at 6 p.m. from the United Parish Congregational Church (formerly Calvary Community Church). Registration is at that site and begins at 5:30 p.m. It is recommended, but not necessary, that costumes and bikes, trikes, wagons, etc., reflect the theme, “Celebrating the Olympics.” Prizes are awarded in four categories: walkers, bikes/trikes, wagons/floats and doll carriages. Everyone gets a treat at the finish at Long Lake Park.

The Lions Club Lobster and Chicken Feed will be held on both Friday and Saturday nights from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is often a sell-out so get there early. A home-cooked Saturday morning breakfast is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the United Parish Congregational Church across from the park. This is a donations-only event and supports the church and its mission.

The final day begins with the Grand Parade, which steps off at noon from Depot Street and passes along Main Street up to the church. At 10:30 p.m. the final 50/50 drawing will take place and a winner for the raffle booth’s grand prize is drawn.
