PHILLIPS – Glenwood C. “Tubby” Tyler, 69, of Phillips, formerly of Temple, died late Saturday, June 21, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Oct. 18, 1938, in Temple, the son of Harold and Violette (Harmon) Tyler. He attended Temple schools.
Tubby worked for several years for Phil Hodgkins at Triangle Bus Lines doing various jobs including driving a school bus, working in the woods and as a mail carrier. He later went to work for Backus Garage before working in the shoe industry at Farmington, Norwock and Livermore Falls shoe companies. In 1982, he went to work at Forster Manufacturing retiring in 1998.
He was a 50-plus year member of the Farmington Grange and served for several years as a deputy in the Maine State Grange. He also was a member of the National Grange.
He enjoyed being in the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and planting tomatoes in his garden. A “big kid” at heart, he loved a good practical joke and telling stories. He was an avid cribbage player, loved watching John Wayne western movies, blue grass music and the company of children and his dogs were also very important to him. He also enjoyed bowling and as a young man looked forward to Saturday night dances especially in Chesterville.
He is survived by his wife, Priscilla of Phillips; a son, Glen and his wife, Becky, of Temple; a daughter, Cynthia and her husband, Weston Seamon, of Wilton; a brother, Calvin Tyler of North Jay; a sister, Noella Davis of Wilton; a half sister, Marion Hines; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Eva Nutting July 22, 1995; brothers, Kenneth and Arthur Tyler; and a granddaughter, Katie Seamon.
