LEWISTON – A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Laurier Mathieu was held Monday at Holy Cross Church after the reading of the “fireman’s prayer” by the Honor Details of both the Lewiston and Auburn Fire departments at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home. The Rev. Nathan March celebrated the Mass and recited committal prayers at Gracelawn Memorial Park. During Mass, Larry’s children placed the pall on their father’s casket as well as his missalette. Readings were read by Norman and Marc Beaulieu, and the prayer of the faithful was read by Larry Dumont. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Larry’s grandchildren, Ryan and Melissa Mathieu and Regina Nash. Also in attendence were delegations from both the Auburn and Lewiston Fire departments. The funeral procession passed Lewiston Central Fire Station on Bates Street where firefighters gave their final salute in honor of Larry’s long career as a fellow firefighter. After committal prayers at Gracelawn Memorial Park the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Detail played “Taps” and presented our country’s flag to Larry’s son, Gerald in recognition of his father’s service to his country during the Cold War. Pallbearers were firefighters, John Cloutier, Mike Albert and Roger Roy who represented the Lewiston Fire Department, and firefighters, Matt Fifield, Scott Burnham and Tim Allen who represented the Auburn Fire Department. All were then invited to a reception of fellowship at DaVinci’s Restaurant in Lewiston at the conclusion of the services.
