AVON – Maurice “Monty” C. Toothaker, 89, died Sunday, June 22, at his home in Avon.
He was born April 9, 1919, in East Madrid, the son of Fred and Angie (Pease) Toothaker. He was educated in the schools of Phillips graduating from Phillips High School, Class of 1939.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, being stationed in Europe.
He was self-employed at a lumberman for all of his life.
He was a member of the North Franklin Snowmobile Club, member and past president of the Prescott Fairbanks American Legion Post 64, Veterans of Foreign War American Legion, member of 40 & 8, member of the Phillips Shared Ministry.
In Nov. 1, 1997, Monty was inducted into the Maine Running Hall of Fame. He was a big game hunter and traveled around the world hunting and fishing. He enjoyed camping and being outdoors, playing cards and being involved in horse pulling.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Anita Ellicott of Avon; four sons, Dana Toothaker of Phillips, Virgil Toothaker of Livermore, David Toothaker of Raleigh, N.C., and Richard Toothaker of Fayette; his twin brother, Malcolm Toothaker of Avon; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, Everett Toothaker.
