LEWISTON – The Downeast Brass, a group of five experienced musicians from southern and central Maine, will kick off L/A Arts’ Music in the Parks concert series Thursday, July 10. The band enjoys playing a wide range of styles, from classical to Dixieland. It has performed at private parties at the governor’s mansion in Augusta, at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, N.H., in parades and at wedding ceremonies.
Band founder and arranger Dwight Tibbetts has kept the unique talents and skills of his colleagues in mind as he has arranged music specifically for the group.
Now in its 7th year, Music in the Parks offers a diverse lineup of rock, folk, blues, roots, country, a cappella, brass and bluegrass.
Concerts are held at noon every Thursday throughout July and August. July concerts are in Lewiston’s Fountain Park. August concerts are in Auburn’s Festival Plaza in the downtown. Concerts last about one hour.
Bates Mill, LLC, has once again offered to host all of the Lewiston concerts at Fountain Park. “It’s such a beautiful location, a real hidden treasure in the heart of Lewiston,” said Cheri Donahue, L/A Arts marketing director.
“Now with Davinci’s Eatery up and running at its new locations adjoining the park, the area has become better known. But if anyone is still unsure of Fountain Park’s location, we have put a map with the concert sites starred on all of our Music in the Parks posters that are up around town, and we have a downloadable map on our Web site, www.laarts.org,” Donahue said.
