WATERVILLE (AP) – A Vietnamese pot-bellied pig that’s been on the lam in the Waterville area for more than a month has finally been captured.

Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said Monday that police responded Saturday to a call from someone who had been feeding French fries to the pig. He said officers briefly stunned the animal with a Taser gun, then captured it with a snare pole.

Rumsey said the pig suffered no ill effects and was taken to a farm in Oakland to await pickup by its owner.

The pig escaped last month when it slipped its leash during a campus cookout at Colby College. The pig, it was noted, was not on the menu.

Rumsey said it was important to capture the pig because it could pose a public hazard.
