AUBURN – The Child Health Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters Program in the Auburn School District recently held an end-of-year celebration. All the Big Brothers and Sisters gathered in the Edward Little High School cafe’ and waited for their “Little’s” to arrive from the area elementary schools.

Bigs and Littles spent several hours together having refreshments and creating cards to exchange e-mail and mailing addresses so they can stay in touch through the summer. They also spent time making bracelets and necklaces from shoestring and beads to take home.

Susan Webster, Child Health Center mentor coordinator, who oversees the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program in the Auburn schools, handed out certificates of recognition to all the Bigs and Littles for their dedication over the last year. Special recognition was also given to the Bigs who are senior this year.

She also gave the Bigs Frisbees, T-shirts and key chains and the Littles received a special gift, a sneaker style pencil box that was filled with supplies.

All of this, including the Little’s bus transportation from the schools, was made possible by a Proctor and Gamble grant awarded in the fall.

After receiving the grant, the Big Brothers and Big Sisters at Edward Little went shopping with Webster for games, art supplies and other items to put together activity boxes for the Auburn elementary schools where the Bigs meet with their Littles during the school year. Shortly thereafter the Bigs gathered in the high school cafeteria to assemble the boxes.
