NORWAY – Norway Memorial Library set up a book display and information about the teen summer reading program in the Oxford Hills Middle School cafeteria recently.
The program will run from June 26 to Aug. 7. Registration will open from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the library.
This year’s program is organized around an activity card, which is divided into 20 squares. Each time teens complete five squares, they receive a prize: a bookmark, sticky notes, Oxford Plains Speedway ticket, coupon for a pizza or soft serve coupon.
Some squares list types of books to read, such as nonfiction, biography, graphic novel or fantasy, and teens can choose the book they want to read in each genre. Other squares list activities to complete, including check out and watch a comedy film or musical; participate in a book discussion; or read five picture books or a chapter book to a young child.
In addition to reading and collecting prizes, two events are planned – a karate demonstration by Maine Kyokushin Karate Association of Norway at the library on July 17 and a games and pizza night as part of the wrap-up on Aug. 7.
