PHILLIPS – Voters have 51 articles to consider when they meet Saturday to make financial decisions on operating town government for the town’s new fiscal year that starts July 1.

The proposed budget is $1.7 million, up slightly over the last year’s budget, new Town Manager Lynn White of Phillips said.

White, a native of Phillips, started his job June 18 at a salary of $40,000, he said.

He has spent years as an engineer and business manager and will now deal with issues in a local government arena. He collects antique cars and he and his wife, Mary-Ellen, own and operate Clark & White Inc., a limousine service.

White said he expects infrastructure needs and improving roads to draw discussion during the town meeting.

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. June 28 at the Phillips Middle School.

Another item that may cause debate is not raising money for some charities that request annual donations, White said. Town officials are trying to keep expenses down to compensate for the rising energy costs and other increases beyond their control, he said.
