State officials hike to Bucks Ledge

WOODSTOCK – Maine Commissioner of Conservation Patrick McGowan recently visited Bucks Ledge in Woodstock with local legislators and officials from the Mahoosuc Land Trust and hiked to the top of the ledges.

The Maine Bureau of Public Lands and the Mahoosuc Land Trust are co-applicants for Land for Maine’s Future funding to conserve the 600 acres for public access and recreation.

Notification on the application will be received in early July and a fundraising effort to secure the local match will begin.

State Sen. Bruce Bryant of Dixfield and Rep. Tim Carter of Bethel have worked with the local Ledges Committee and the Mahoosuc Land Trust on the project.

Land Trust President Steve Wight of Newry and Executive Director Jim Mitchell, as well as Cathy Newell of the Bucks Ledge Committee, participated in the meeting and the hike.
