WILTON – A transfer station worker who was bit by a customer’s dog has started a series of rabies shots after the town failed to locate the dog’s owner.

Town Manager Peter Nielsen said Tuesday that part-time worker Jesse Rose received medical attention after the incident. She was bit on the hand while helping a customer unload materials.

The town had hoped Rose could avoid the rabies shots by finding the owner and checking the dog’s vaccination record.

The rest of the shots might not be needed if the dog’s owner could still be found, he said.

As an on-the-job injury, the treatment will be covered by workers’ compensation insurance, Nielsen said, although he did not have information on the cost for the series of shots.
