AROOSTOOK COUNTY – Laurent “Larry” R. Gagnon, 68, of Reginald Street, Auburn, died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 22, at his favorite spot on Earth, Fish Lake Campground in northern Maine.

He was born in Masardis, June 21, 1940, the son of the late Thomas and Meddie Duprey Gagnon and was the youngest of nine children. He was employed as a handsewer at Sebago Moc for several years. He then owned and operated Larry’s Shoe Repair on Main Street in Auburn. He then owned and operated Maine Industrial Supply Corporation (MISCO) for 25 years.

After retirement, he worked part-time, for the past two years, as a truck driver for Lily Transportation delivering Lindt Chocolates. Larry was an Army veteran who served during the Berlin Crisis and was a member of the Auburn Catholic Community. His passion was fishing but he also enjoyed golf.

He is survived by his wife, Diana (LaChapelle) Gagnon of Auburn; two daughters, Theresa Athanasiou and husband, John, of Durham and Tammie Munoz and husband, Domingo, of New York; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold Gagnon of Millinocket and Ellis Gagnon and wife, Irene, of Norwalk, Conn.; three sisters, Lillian Daigle of East Millinocket, Nellie Carney of Monmouth and Ruth Coreau and husband, Walter, of Alfred; his mother-in-law, Louisa Russell of Auburn; a brother and sister-in-law, Adrien and Sandra LaChapelle of Troy, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Delphine Gerald and Bernice LeBelle; and a brother, Albert “Gib” Gagnon.
