AUBURN – Jeweler Dan Cunliffe II of Republic Jewelry recently completed the Gemological Institute of America diamond grading lab in Boston.

The GIA diamond grading lab is a combination of hands-on training, one-on-one coaching, and integrated multimedia presentations designed to help professional jewelers become proficient in GIA’s diamond grading system. The course concentrates on judging the grade clarity, color and cut quality factors of round brilliant diamonds. During the course, Cunliffe spent more than 18 hours practicing grading techniques on diamonds that have been carefully selected and graded in the GIA Laboratory. Ron Smith, Republic’s master jeweler, has also completed the lab and other GIA courses toward his graduate gemologist degree.
