RUMFORD – James William Breau Jr., 90, of Kimball Avenue, Mexico, passed away Wednesday, June 25, at the Rumford Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born in Rumford on Feb. 21, 1918, the son of Helen (Cormier) and James Breau Sr.
He attended Mexico schools, and was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.
James was a veteran of World War II in the 10th Mountain Division. He then went to work for 42 years at the Oxford Paper Co. He was a member of the VFW and the 25- and 40-year clubs.
James was a devoted husband and caring father of six children. He worked and lived for his family. He loved life and lived it to the fullest, spending 40 wonderful years with family and friends at the “Sugar Shack” in Oquossoc, yet was happy to forfeit many of his activities in order to take care of his lifelong soul mate, his wife.
James loved and appreciated the great outdoors and passed that gift on to his children. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Many “hot” locations were known by him alone. He also loved woodworking, sharing many of his projects with his family, and playing cards. James was never ashamed of winning.
He is survived by his three daughters, Jean Boudreau and her husband, Ernest, of Roxbury, Judy Kennedy and husband, Donald, of Roxbury, and Janice Sirois and husband, Marc, of Lewiston; a son, Reginald and wife, Holly, of Rumford; a sister, Lil Gotto; four brothers, Lionel of Mexico, Edward and Raymond of Rumford, and Omer of Portland; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
James was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife of 62 years, Yvette; two sons, Roger and Reginald; and a brother, Rene.
A special thank you to his caregivers, Jill and Donna; he always said no one got the special care that he received from them and his daughters. Also, a special thank you to Joe for the many hours spent trying to beat Jim at cribbage. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Jimmy was a lucky person.
