AUGUSTA – Monmouth Jenn Lola and Buckfield’s Kasey Farrington were recognized as the top players in their regions at Thursday’s Senior Softball All-Star games at Cony High School.
Lola was named the Western C Player of the Year while Farrington was the Player of the Year in Western D.
Bangor’s Amy Hackett was named Miss Maine Softball and was the top player in Eastern A. Lola led the Mustangs to a 12-2 record in Western C and was named the Mountain Valley Conference’s top player for the second year in a row. Her second-seeded Mustangs advanced to the regional semifinal before losing to Telstar.
Farrington was the ace for the two-time defending Class D state champions. She helped pitch her Bucks to a third straight regional title and outdueled Bangor Christian’s Jillian French in the Class D state game. Lewiston’s Maria Labbe was awarded a $500 scholarship. She’ll be attending St. Joseph’s College and playing softball there next year.
Other regional players included South Portland’s Julie Dimatteo in Western A. In Class B, Mattanawcook’s Brianna Hanscom and Wells’ Megan Blier were recognized. Sumner’s Kayla Higgin’s was the Eastern C Player of the Year while Ashland’s Whitney Flint was the top player in Eastern D. The West beat the East in both senior all-star games – 9-1 in the A-B game and 14-2 in the C-D game.
