AUBURN – Ele J. Cormier Sr., 94, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 26, at Bolster Heights Living Center.

He was born in Mexico on Jan. 16, 1914, the son of the late Phillip Cormier and Jane Martin. He received his education in Mexico schools and he married Muriel Jane Phinney on Dec. 25, 1936.

Ele was a member of the Auburn Church of the Nazarene and held many positions in the church and played the violin. Ele was a former member and past master of the Mt. Sugarloaf Grange in Dixfield, New Century Pomona, state and national grange, AF & AM of Dixfield and past matron of the Eastern Star of Dixfield.

He worked at Thurston’s Dowell Mill, Hale Stowel MacGregors Saw Mill of Dixfield, and Diamond National in Peru as a millwright. He worked several wood jobs and was self-employed. He was also employed at the South Portland Shipyard, Puritan Chevrolet in Auburn and was a volunteer for the Auburn Fire Department. He retired from Etonic Shoe Company at the age of 83.

Ele’s hobbies included hunting and snowmobiling, and he was known as Mr. Fix-It. He enjoyed his two birthday poodles, Precious and Timmy.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Muriel Cormier of Auburn; one daughter, Joyce Oliverio and husband, Joseph, of Salem, N.H.; two sons, Ele Cormier Jr. and wife, Dolores, of Minot, and Dale Cormier and wife, Kathy, of Rockport; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandson; a sister, Ida Moore of Bryant Pond; two sisters-in-law, Rose Mae Marston of Frye, and Rita Marston of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. He was loved by all.

He was predeceased by brothers William, Perley, Walter, Wallace and Bummy.
