RANGELEY – Voters on Monday will consider a $2.8 million school budget at an all-day referendum.

The spending plan was set at a public meeting earlier this month. The referendum will offer a one-question yes or no validation vote from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Town Office.

The budget is up 2.5 percent ($73,000) over this year’s spending.

A runoff election between two candidates who tied for a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen will not take place until early August, Town Manager Perry Ellsworth said Friday. The vote was scheduled to meet the law for absentee ballots, which need to be available 30 days prior to an election.

A recount after the June 10 election showed that incumbent Selectman Robert Welch and opponent Gary Shaffer were tied with 136 votes each. Initial results were Welch, 136, and Shaffer, 135.

Ellsworth said selectmen would operate with a four-member board until the election runoff occurs. The date will be set Tuesday at the selectmen meeting.
