Five teachers honored on retirement
LEWISTON – Five members of the Lewiston High School staff are retiring at the end of the school year.
The retirees included Robert Blanchette with 25 years of service in the English Department; David Bowie, 40 years, Math Department; Joan Macri, 24 years, Social Studies Department; Carol Smith, 21 years, administrative assistant to the principal; and Crystal Ward, 28 years, Social Studies Department.
School staff honored the retirees at a banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn on June 11.
There were 120 guests, including colleagues, former teachers, family and friends.
After supper, entertainment was provided by a LHS choral group, followed by speeches honoring the retirees’ service and dedication to the school, students and education.
Michael McGraw introduced the speakers, who included Sen. Margaret Rotundo, Principal Gus LeBlanc, Assistant Principals Paul Amnott and Elizabeth Bradley and various colleagues.
Each retiree received a chair with the school emblem, a copy of the school’s yearbook and a frame with the varsity letter and years of service.
