RUMFORD – Kevin Gallant’s RBI infield single in the fourth inning sealed the deal for the Rumford Cardinals in a 3-2 Men’s Senior Baseball League win over the Winthrop Red Sox.
Winthrop (6-2) jumped ahead in the second inning with back-to-back singles from Jim Morris and John Bourque, followed by an RBI double by Dave Ricker.
Rumford (4-3) answered in the third when Ryan Palmer drove in Travis Brooks with the second of his three hits on the night, followed by an RBI triple from Rich Todd.
The Sox plated another run in the sixth inning before Palmer closed the door to earn the save for winning pitcher Steve LaPointe. Winthrop’s Mike House was the only other repeat hitter on the night.
