AUBURN – Fatigue and falling asleep at the wheel is considered the cause of a Saturday afternoon crash that snapped an electrical pole in half on Turner Road near Lake Shore Drive.

Floyd T. Patrick, 28, of 418 Depot St., Wilton, told local police that he was tired and possibly fell asleep while driving southbound on Turner Road when the wreck occurred at about 4:18 p.m. Patrick’s 1996 Ford 4-door crossed the center line and two northbound lanes of traffic before going off the road into a ditch and striking a utility pole, snapping it in half.

Damage to Patrick’s car was estimated at about $5,000, while damage to the pole, which had to be replaced, were estimated at about $3,000.
