Church supper

NORTH WATERFORD – A public supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at the North Waterford Congregational Church, Five Kezars Road. The menu will include baked beans, American chop suey, casseroles, salads, brown bread, rolls, beverages and strawberry shortcake. The cost is $7 for adults; $3.50 for children under 12.

The 10 a.m. regular Sunday worship services will move to the North Waterford Congregational Church for July, beginning Sunday, July 6.

Bean supper

PARIS – An old-fashion bean supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the First Baptist Church of Paris. The menu will include beans, hot dogs, casseroles, rolls, brown bread, desserts and beverages. Proceeds will benefit the building fund and the food pantry. It is sponsored by the First Baptist Church and the Senior Social Center.

Patriotic service

NORWAY – Christ Episcopal Church will offer a special patriotic service at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 6. Beginning with the introduction to the Mayflower Compact and the Preamble to the Constitution, various readings from the country’s history will be interspersed with familiar, patriotic hymns and prayers.

All are invited. Christ Church is located at 35 Paris St., corner of Green Street. Child care will be provided. For questions, phone the church office at 743-6782.

Summer schedule

PARIS – First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St., South Paris, will switch to its summer worship schedule for July and August, meeting at 9 a.m.

“By starting worship one hour earlier than usual, it allows us to beat the summer heat and also allows us a little extra time to enjoy our summer Sundays for other activities,” said Don Mayberry, pastor.

The choir will sing on Sunday, July 6, then will be on summer hiatus. Various musical groups and soloists will provide special music during the services. Also over the summer Mayberry will invite a variety of guests to take part in conversational sermons, sharing their stories of faith.

Everyone is welcome and the church is handicapped accessible. While the Sunday school is on summer break, child care and supervised children’s activities will be provided. For more information about the church, call 743-2437.

Open house

WEST PARIS – There will be an open house at the Finnish-American Heritage Center, 8 Maple St., every Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. beginning on July 6, with the exception of Aug. 17. The museum, library and gift shop will be open. Coffee will be available.

Seniors trip

BETHEL – The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at the Bethel Area Health Center on Wednesday, July 9, for a trip to Castle in the Clouds. The bus will leave at 8 a.m. Reservations must be made before Monday, July 7. Call Nancy at 824-3350 or Arlene at 824-2877.

Yard, craft sale

SUMNER – The Congregational Church of East Sumner will have a parking lot yard and craft sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12. Set-up will be at 7:30 a.m. and 10’x10′ table space available for $10, the vendor providing the table. To reserve a space, contact Lisa at 388-2446 or Peggy 388-2074. Proceeds will benefit Pilgrim Lodge scholarships for the church youth.

Saturday program

WATERFORD – The Country Ridge Riders will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, July 5, at the Waterford World’s Fairgrounds, Green Road. The cost is $10 a person. For more information, contact Penny Hill at 583-4160.

Library visitor

WEST PARIS – Emily Beers, U.S. Forest Ranger from the Evans Notch Visitor Center in Bethel and the Gorham, N.H., station, will return to the West Paris Library at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 9.

She will present a program about the trees of the forests and neighborhoods. A tree identification walk and a related art project will be included.

The first of five Wednesday afternoon programs, it is part of the West Paris summer reading program. Fore more information, call 674-2004.

Berry breakfast

BRIDGTON – The 15th annual strawberry breakfast will be held from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, in the Fellowship Hall of the First Congregational Church. The menu will include pancakes, French toast, biscuits, cereal and ice cream, all topped with local strawberries.

Seating will be available in the recently refurbished Fellowship Hall as well as under a tent. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $7 for adults, $3 for youth ages 5 to 10 and $2 for those 4 and under. The church is located at 33 South High St.

Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit First Church ministries, which includes a free clothes closet, an Adopt a Child Christmas program and other efforts.
