RUMFORD – Robert L. “Haynesy” Haynes, 71, of Canton, died Sunday, June 29, at Rumford Hospital.
He was born Feb. 16, 1937, in Canton, the son of Horace and Arlene (Allaneck) Haynes. He attended Canton and Turner schools.
He was employed most of his working career in bridge construction. He also worked in forestry for Craig Quimby and at DeCoster Egg Farm in Turner.
A U.S. veteran, he enlisted in the Marine Corps at 17 and served in Korea. He was a member of the AMVETS and American Legion in Jay and Livermore Falls.
He enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting, fishing and smelting.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Sharon Haynes, of Livermore Falls, whom he married on April 8, 1980; children, Rebecca Hinkley and her husband, Ronald, of North Monmouth, Horace Greaton of Livermore Falls, William Greaton of Rumford, Lisa Haynes and her companion, Jamie Matlec, of Sedgewick, Brenda Fronk and her husband, Jeffrey, of Farmington and Peggy Ross of Orland; grandchildren, Amber, Ronnie and Emily Hinkley of North Monmouth, Nick Witham of Ellsworth, S.D., Sabryna Matlec and Ashleigh West of Sedgewick, Dylan Ross of Orland, Aleshia Greaton of Livermore Falls, Frannie, Patty and Jacob White of Strong; siblings, Sally Merchant of Mexico and Malcolm Haynes of Livermore Falls.
He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Nancy Estes; a brother-in-law, Buddy Merchant; and a nephew.
