Dear Sun Spots: I would like to ask if any reader out there would have any extra hosta plants that they would part with, green or colored. Call 782-7864. – Dot, Lewiston.

Answer:
In addition to responses from readers, have you considered finding a group of people who would be interested in having a plant swap? Sun Spots had a wonderful conversation with a woman who hosts a plant swap once a year for about 20 friends and family. Instead of throwing out plants while weeding, or tossing out extra perennials that are getting too big, pot them to share with friends. This is an excellent idea for people who are just starting to garden and need some advice from avid gardeners. The group also has a brunch, door prizes and plays some fun games. For those who don’t have plants to share with others, they bring a food item for the brunch. It’s a great way to add some new plants to your garden!

Dear Sun Spots: I would greatly appreciate it if you, or the devoted readers could help me locate or suggest a Professional Oil Painting Artist. Thank you for your time! – Lise, No Town.

Answer: Jacinda at Fiddlehead Center for the Arts in Gray recommended a few local artists and we were able to speak with Al Tomlinson, who has been painting for about 35 years. He has been doing commercial art and other commissioned work in Maine for most of that time. Located in Auburn, he may be reached at 753-0253 or altom@rr.com. Please contact him for a price schedule; prices are based on the size and subject matter of the painting.
