LEWISTON – Members and friends of the George Armstrong Custer Post 7, Grand Army of the Republic Association, will hold a memorial service at the gravesides of Custer Post 7 members, who were at the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1 to 6, 1863, and are buried in Riverside Cemetery.
It is the 145th anniversary of the crucial battle in the Civil War, and the ceremony is scheduled for noon Saturday, July 5. It is open to the public and will be held rain or shine.
The program will open with singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by those assembled. Douglas Taylor will provide the invocation, followed by the reading of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address by Armand Bussiere.
The group will sing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” then Larry Hayes, Civil War historian, will talk on the Battle of Gettysburg. Jerry DerBoghosian will discuss the origins of Custer Post 7.
