MEXICO – D. Leonard Lindberg, 77, died Tuesday, July 1. He was a resident of Roxbury Road in Mexico.
He was born in Rumford on Oct. 12, 1930, a son of the late David L. and Florence (Sessions) Lindberg. He was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1948.
He worked for Oxford Paper Co. in Rumford as a long log processor, until his retirement in 1986.
He took extreme pride in being the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather possible. He passed on to his family a love of nature, family, fishing and hunting, community and his love of God.
A very special place for him was the family camp on Webb Lake. He poured his heart and soul into making it the family destination. The camp hosted many family reunions, marriages and baptisms over the years. He made a wooden whistle for all of his grandchildren hoping that it would be a tradition.
Another place that held special memories was his tree farm. Given to him as a graduation present by his grandfather, Leonard, he spent thousands of hours on this piece of God’s work. He took extreme pride in showing it off to anyone who visited. He also enjoyed woodworking and working with flowers.
He dedicated large amounts of time to the First Baptist Church of Mexico, where he served on the board of trustees and also served two terms on the board of directors for SAD 43.
He was married in Mexico on Oct. 14, 1950, to Virginia “Ginny” Glover, who survives of Mexico.
Other survivors include a son, Bruce Lindberg and his wife, Catherine, of Lee; two daughters, Debbie Mayo and her husband, Jim, of Westbrook and Jennifer Lindberg-Lepage and her husband, Mike, of Rumford; a sister, Nadine Strout of Concord, N.H.; grandchildren, Seth Fournier and his wife, Kimmie, of Hartford, Eric and Lauren Lepage of Rumford, Devin Mayo of Portland, Melissa Mayo of Lake Tahoe, David Lindberg and his wife, Tina, of Lynn, Mass., and Hope High and her husband, John, of Sorrento; a great-granddaughter, Grace High of Sorrento; daughter-in-law, Wendy Lindberg of Rumford; and an aunt, Marion Boy of Lisbon, N.H.
He was predeceased by a son, Mark D. Lindberg
