AUBURN – Elizabeth Weeks Bendtsen of 49 Bardwell St., Lewiston, died Monday, June 30, at the Androscoggin Hospice House.
She was born in Pittsfield, a daughter of the late Elwood P. Weeks and Eva Lash Weeks. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School.
She married Royal F. Roderick on Aug. 24, 1933. She became a licensed funeral director and assisted her husband in the operation of the Roderick Funeral Home, which they started in 1935. He died in 1966, after which she continued to operate the business until it was sold in 1972.
She married Frederick A. Bendtsen in 1970, following his retirement from Central Maine Power. They lived in Titusville, Fla., for 21 winters returning to their home in Lewiston for the summer months, where he died Aug. 5, 1998.
She was a longtime member of the United Baptist Church in Lewiston, having served as president of the woman’s society and a member of the diaconate and the choir. She especially enjoyed decorating the church on special holidays. She was past president of the Woman’s Literary Union and served several years on the board of directors and was past worthy matron of Mt. Olivet Chapter 29 of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member for more than 60 years. Her hobbies included golf, gardening, oil painting and sewing.
She leaves many cherished friends, all members of the Bendtsen family who have been like family to her, Robert and Mabel Parent of Lafayette, Colo., William and Susan Parent and family of Simsbury, Conn., Wilfred and Elizabeth Dulac and family of Auburn, James and Janet Holden and family of Portland and Scott and Jean Van Steamburg and family of Cumberland.
