AUBURN – A former part-time police officer at Mechanic Falls is scheduled to go to trial next month on a criminal count of drunken driving.
The vehicle Robert E. Wallingford III, 28, of Lisbon drove was stopped on Jan. 6 shortly after 8 p.m. on Ferry Road in Lisbon.
A sergeant at Lisbon Police Department give Wallingford a field sobriety test. A blood-alcohol test later showed Wallingford had a level of .15 percent or more, according to court records at Androscoggin County Superior Court.
A complaint charged him with criminal operating under the influence, a class D misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail.
Wallingford waived arraignment and pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Leonard Sharon.
Sharon filed motions to suppress evidence as well as Wallingford’s statements.
Wallingford was put on administrative leave then resigned about a week after the incident, Mechanic Falls Town Manager John Hawley said. As a reserve officer, Wallingford was not salaried and worked for hourly pay, Hawley said.
