Fire department sponsoring fireworks show
INDUSTRY – The fire department will again sponsor a July 4th fireworks display, said fire Chief Joe Paradis. The show is supposed to be bigger and better than ever.
While last year the department raised enough to purchase a Jaws of Life, funds raised this year will go toward a small emergency response vehicle for the medical crew, he said.
He reminded people that once at the viewing area they should plan to stay until the show is over because it’s only one-lane traffic. There will be food vendors and people are welcome to bring a tailgate cookout to enjoy while they wait for the show.
FARMINGTON – There may lots of pirates taking to the streets when Farmington’s annual July 4th parade kicks off at 10 a.m. Friday.
This year’s theme, pirates, can include anything to do with pirates, said Rotary Club President Al Feather on Wednesday.
Parade registration begins at 8:30 a.m. behind the Mallett School. There is no fee, but participants are asked to register before parking for judging. Planners also like to place entries in the line up so bands aren’t in front of firetrucks, he added.
Scott Pratt will register floats prior to judging from 9 to 9:30 a.m. There will be eight categories and ribbons for the top three winners in each class, judged on theme, originality and effort. Categories are military, agriculture, individuals, families and groups, business, antique cars/trucks and antique tractors.
The parade will follow the usual route from Mallett onto Quebec down Perham to Broadway left down Main Street to South Street then back up High Street to Middle ending at the school, he said.
Following the parade, the Pierce House on Main Street will offer a concert on the lawn featuring the Centennial Brass Band. Free lemonade and cookies for kids to decorate will be served. Members of Old South Congregational Church will sell strawberry shortcake at Pierce House.
Next door on the front lawn of Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, members will give away free hot dogs after the parade. Everyone who comes gets a hot dog for free as long as they last, said Pastor Susan Crane.
The church will accept donations for the Franklin County Ecumenical Heating Fund, she added. Information about how the fund helps local families will be available at the table.
