FARMINGTON – Again the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office on the ground-level of the county courthouse has a water issue.

County Clerk Julie Magoon alerted commissioners to the problem Tuesday.

Assistant District Attorney Jim Andrews had informed her that water was coming into his office, in the front right corner of the building facing Main Street.

There has been some odor and the wall is buckling again, she said.

Two pieces of wall board on different interior walls have buckled and tile near a door frame adjacent to the wall has started to lift and crumble where water was coming in.

Magoon said a cause has not been located.

The same office had water damage in January 2005 caused by a leak in the heating system that had Andrews complaining about noxious odors from the water dripping onto asbestos insulation covering heating pipes. It was also suspected then that there might be mold contaminating wallboard caused by a leak from the heating system and condensation caused by cold air coming in from outdoors in the below-grade office.

A second set offices across the hall used by Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson, a legal secretary and victim’s advocate, also had water issues after a heating pipe wrapped in asbestos sprung a leak in November 2006.

In both cases, asbestos insulation, tiles and other materials were removed. Other work was also done in hope of prevent the situation from recurring.

Also in both cases, assistant district attorneys and staff had to move to another space while the work was done.
