BLUE HILL (AP) – A fiery car crash on Route 172 near the village of Blue Hill has claimed the lives of two foreign visitors.

State police say the victims were a man and a woman whose names are being withheld pending formal identification by the state Medical Examiner’s Office.

Lt. Chris Coleman said the two were headed south early Wednesday morning when their rented car missed a sharp curve, went sideways and struck a granite curb, flipping at least once before catching fire.

The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
