WILTON – Frances A. Vining, 83, of Wilton, passed away peacefully at home on Friday July 4, with family by her side. She was born May 19, 1925, in Wilton, a daughter of Archie and Esther (Knowles) Lakin. She attended Wilton schools and married Quentin D. Vining in Jay on July 27, 1946. He predeceased her on March 7, 2007.

She was employed at the Wilton Woolen Mill in her early years, then became a homemaker and caretaker of children in her home. She later was employed at G. H. Bass for a number of years, retiring at age 62.

She was a strong woman who fought many health problems and kept going no matter how hard it was. She enjoyed riding with her husband when he drove his truck. She loved her rides with her husband and the rest of the family; her favorite ride being the No. 6 Road. She loved to go to her sister’s house, and then enjoyed listening to music after that in Livermore Falls. She also enjoyed going out to eat. She was a very hard worker and enjoyed canning from her husband, Quentin’s, garden. She loved her two dogs, Ham and Sam.

She is survived by her loving children, David G. Vining of Jay, Barbara Vining of Wilton, Kenneth L. Vining of Wilton, daughter-in-law, Meredith Vining of Wilton; her grandchildren, Timothy Vining and wife, Bobbie-Jo, Cathy Vining, Cindy Kaherl and husband, Shane, Travis Vining and wife, Brande, Joshua Vining, Dylan Vining and a very special granddaughter, Jessica Vining and her companion, Jean, who has been there for Grammie so much; and a very special great-grandson that lit up her life to the end, Jayvin; a sister, Blanche Ranger and companion, Richard Shaffer.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons Rodney Vining and Ronald Vining; her parents, Archie and Esther Lakin; a brother, Vincent Lakin; a sister, Clyde Lakin and a great-grandson, Lucas.

The family wishes to thank all the family and many friends for their help and support in the last few years, to the Wilton Dialysis Center, and to her many doctors and ambulance personnel for helping so much. We’d also like to thank Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for all of their support and caring during this very difficult time.
