Bridgton – Charles L. Sol, 59, of North Waterford, died Tuesday July 1, at Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Bridgton. The son of a French war bride and an American serviceman, he was born in Chantilly, France, and was brought to Huguenof as a 3-year-old boy.
He graduated from Tottenville High School and attended the College of Staten Island.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 until 1971, stationed in Korea, and also served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion posts in Staten Island, Florida and Maine.
He lived in St. Petersburg, Fla., for 10 years, before settling in Waterford three years ago.
He worked for Consolidated Edison on Staten Island for several years, but decided to change careers and became a nurse. He worked at Staten Island University Hospital, Prince’s Bay, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, and also at a hospital in Maine. He was deeply patriotic, and proud to be an American. “He loved his country and loved serving it,” said his sister, Marie Bodnar.
He enjoyed playing songs by the Beatles and Rolling Stones on the guitar. A Mets fan, he also enjoyed playing baseball and paddleball, and working in his garden.
He is survived by his sister, Marie; his wife of 37 years, the former Sandra Bouquia; his son, Marcel; his parents, Jacgueline and Jose Sol; his brother, Paul; and his sister, Jacqueline Palland.
