RUMFORD – Justin Staires belted a game-ending grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally Northern Oxford County to an 8-5 victory over Andy Valley in a Legion Zone III baseball game Monday.

Jake Marceau and Andy Valley entered the final inning with a 5-3 lead and had limited the hosts to six hits. But Northern Oxford (5-5) loaded the bases on consecutive singles by Tom Puiia and Dean McCrillis and a walk to leadoff hitter Derek Dailey. Jon Smith made it 5-4 with an RBI single before Staires launched the ball deep over the left-field fence for the victory.

Matt Laubauskas, who also hit a home run, picked up the win in relief. Laubauskas, Staires and Keith Brennick had two hits apiece.

Evan Barker led Andy Valley (3-7) with three hits, while Jake Letoruneau and Willie Brown had two each.
