LEWISTON – The Child Health Center has recognized employee, Tracy Doyle, for receiving the 2008 American Red Cross-United Valley “Real Hero” Award. Since 2005 Doyle has worked with the Child Health Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters program, sharing her commitment to children throughout the community.
Doyle began as a volunteer in the school-based mentoring program, where she spent one hour a week at a Lewiston school mentoring an elementary student. She enjoyed this experience so much that she transitioned to the community mentoring program.
Soon after, she volunteered to be an after-school program director helping to establish the Big Brothers Big Sisters after-school mentoring programs at the River Valley Village in the 2005-2006 school year, the Montello School in 2006-2007 and the Gov. James B. Longley Elementary School in 2007-2008.
Doyle also volunteers at the Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraiser, “Bowl For Kids Sake,” as the registration table chairwoman. She coordinates all the volunteers, trains them on responsibilities and oversees the operation of that table.
Ron Hood, mentor coordinator in Androscoggin County, said, “She has an uncanny ability to know what needs to be done, or will offer suggestions to make the job at hand easier She is phenomenal. She is an everyday ‘Real Hero.’ With all that Tracy does for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, for her work supporting and engaging the “Littles” and the “Bigs” in her programs, and the results seen by the schools and families, Tracy Doyle is a community leader, and most definitely a ‘Real Hero’.”
