LEWISTON – Julia “Judy” N. Moreau, 89, of 85 Caron Lane, Auburn, died Monday, July 7, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Born in Hudson, N.Y., on May 17, 1919, she was the daughter of John and Rose Patton Nytransky.

In 1942, she joined the U.S. Army, and served as a nurse in the South Pacific until her discharge as a lieutenant in 1945. During the war she met a young soldier named Emile Moreau, and they were married on Jan. 26, 1946. They made their home in Lewiston until his death in 1962.

She worked as a nurse for over 40 years at Central Maine Medical Center, and was very active in several nursing, veteran, and civic organizations including the Retired Officers Association-Southern Maine Chapter, the Military Order of the World Wars-Maine Chapter, VFW Post #1603, American Legion Post #153, the CMMC Nurse’s Alumni Association, CMMC Women’s Hospital Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, the Women’s Literary Union, the Mount Auburn Veteran’s Cemetery Association, the WAVES National Maine Unit #41, and Covenant 50.

Survivors include a daughter, Lea and husband, William Orr, of Madbury, N.H., a son, Richard Moreau of Turner, and eight grandchildren, Andrea and husband, Peter Clifford, Nathan and wife, Molly Orr, Alicia Orr, Ethan and wife, Amber, Orr, Ryan Orr, Michelle and husband, Brian Reed, Carla Moreau, and Angela Moreau and fiancé Bryan McCormick, and four great-grandchildren, Charlie and Johnny Clifford, and Megan and Matthew Reed.
