My heartfelt thanks go out to the two unknown young men who helped an 84-year-old man on June 18 by loading and securing 30 pieces of lumber in the back of his truck.

I was traveling from East Wilton to Farmington with the lumber when the entire load slid off into the middle of the inside travel lane, right on the curve before the Sandy River bridge.

These young men parked their trucks, with full warning flashers on to alert traffic, then loaded the lumber and secured it in place with their own ropes and straps.

When I offered to pay for the ropes and straps, they politely declined, saying it would spoil the good feeling they had from helping in such a dire situation.

Even now, there are tears of gratitude in my eyes as I recall their kindness and assistance.

Again, I thank them.
